Virtual Book Tour: Day 6

For today’s stop on the tour, we’re visiting author Laura Salas’ blog: Writing the World for Kids. Click on the link for an in-depth interview about both D is for Drinking Gourd and another of my books, A Kid’s Guide to African American History!

Submit your suggestion by posting a comment on today’s blog. It won’t be published on the blog, but your name will be put in a hat to be drawn for 5 prizes to give away at the end of the tour. I’ll post the most popular ten suggestions later on the tour.

Here’s the Top Ten list from last week. There are so many African American heroes that it’s impossible to list them all, but here’s a start:

Yesterday’s Trivia Q and A:
Yesterday’s question was:
What was the name of the first African American newspaper?
a. Freedom’s Journal
b. The North Star
c. The Mystery
The answer is: a. Freedom’s Journal. Even though all three of these were part of the Black press, Freedom’s Journal was the first. It was cofounded by Samuel Cornish and John B. Russworm. The Mystery was later founded by Martin R. Delany before he helped Frederick Douglass launch what was to become the most well-known Black abolitionist newspaper of the day, the North Star.

Today’s Trivia Question:
Which famous explorer co-discovered the North Pole?
a. Matthew Henson
b. York
c. Estevanico
Submit your answer by posting it as a comment to today’s blog. It won’t be published on the blog, but your name will be put in a hat to be drawn for 5 prizes to give away at the end of the tour. Check back in tomorrow for the answer!
